Hi all,
almost every website has a guest book, and the website owners encourage you to sign it, but I'm a little cautious about doing it, because I read in pc world magazine that if you sign guest books on the web, spammers will overload you with ads based on what they think your interests are, for instance, If I sign a guest book on a short story site, then I might get dozens of spam messages trying to talkme in to buying online books for only half price, or get rich selling paper backs, or stuff like that. I was just wondering what are the odds of getting hundreds of spam emails after signing a guest book?

Hi Wonderwoman. It's perfectly okay to sign guestbooks if they're at a web site you trust. If you want to be on the safe side, just don't put your E-Mail addresses there, and make sure to uncheck any checkboxes that ask if you want to receive further E-Mails from them. Most guestbooks don't require that you put your E-Mail address anyway. Hope this helps. Caitlin

Ok, Thanks Caitlin, maybe I'll sign one sometime, if it's a short story site. I enjoy reading some guest books, though I haven't read but 2 guest books in the time I've been on the web.

Hi WW, Yeah definitely. Guestbooks are fun adn a good way to communicate with the webmasters often times. Some people take advantage of uestbooks. Like, my friend Derek and I have a guestbook on our web site an someone posted a very inappropriate site to it. Webmasters, if theyr'e good, check their guestbooks and can filter out these bad entries, which is good. But signing them is totally safe, if you are at a trusted site, and if you don't put your E-Mail address it's fine.

I do sign guest books at times. I must admit, I tend to read more, than I actually sign. They can be quite interesting to read. It's neat to see, the different opinions people have about web sites.

Yes, I'll have to read more of them, one woman even posted a link to her own site, I think another short horror story site.

Hi: I've signed a few guest books and haven't had any problems doing so. They are fun to read and occasionally get new web sites to explore.

Hi Lonna, well I'll have to start signing some I guess, though with some of those story ezines I read, it's hard to know if they still exist, because some of the sites haven't been updated in 3 or more years, so I don't know if they're still active. For instance, twilight times magazines hasn't been updated since 1999, but even if asite is no longer active, the guest book is still there.

Ya I've found some nifty sites via guestbook entries. Now I always post my web site URL in guestbooks that I trust. It's a good publicity thing. Lol! I also liek reading GB's.

Guestbooks seem to be getting more and more popular! I personally think they make a great addition to a web site. And there's places that host free guestbooks for site owners as well like www.freegb.net and www.guestbookdepot.net or somethign like that don't remember the URL ... but yeah! Lol!

The only guest books I sign are on proboards. It's fun to make new threads.
